Excel Lesson Plan- Line Chart

Students Create an Excel Line Chart to Identify Trends and Patterns.

Students create an Excel line chart displaying the monthly temperature patterns for a major world city.

This lesson uses skills developed in previous lessons utilizing merge and center for the title, data entry, text formatting, chart creation, layout selection and formatting, and landscape printing.

The additional skill used here is internet research to locate the annual weather temperature pattern for a selected country. Students use the monthly weather temperature data to create the line chart.

Class Handout

Students will use this handout to find the monthly average high and low temperatures for a major world city. Students will create an Excel line chart showing the annual temperature pattern.

In order to create the excel line chart students will follow these three steps:

  1. Go to Yahoo Weather and enter the city to search for.

  2. Find and click the Records and Averages link.

  3. Use the monthly average high and low temperatures to create the excel chart.
