First Grade Writing Lesson Plans - Mastery Series

Writing and Word Processing Mastery Series for First Graders

This is a series of writing and word processing lesson plans designed to guide first graders from introductory typing and word processing skills to high grade level appropriate proficency, independence, and mastery.

1) Students will review important writing skills such as letter / sound recognition, left to right progression, capitalization rules, spacing between words, punctuation (comma, period, question mark, exclamation point), and parts of a paragraph: introduction, details, closing sentence.

2) Student will also practice important word processing skills such as typing, formatting text, using shift, enter, backspace, and undo / redo. Students will also practice searching for clipart and inserting, resizing, moving, and deleting clipart. Students will save and / or print.

These writing lesson plans integrate technology into the Reading / Language Arts curriculum.

First Grade Writing - Technology Lesson Plans

These writing technology lesson plans are in order of increasing skill and typing ability. Simpler writing lessons are first. Lessons that follow utilize a degree of overlap and repetition to provide opportunities for mastery.

To build a strong foundation of typing and writing skills, alternate traditional typing practice with these writing lesson plans.

One possible instructional pattern is to practice typing on a typing program for 2 or 3 sessions, then practice writing using these lesson plans for 2 or 3 sessions.
