Mastery Series Lesson 1 - What Can Birds Do?
This technology lesson plan is the first in a mastery series of writing and word processing lessons for first graders. Students practice writing 3 sentences using capitalization and punctuation. Students also learn to search for clipart in Microsoft Word, and then insert and size their clipart. Students format the text using a larger font size and print and / save their work.
Keys Learned:
- Shift: To capitalize letters.
- Spacebar: To make one space between each word in the sentences.
- Enter: To move the cursor to the next line down after each sentence.
- Delete: To delete clipart as necessary.
This writing lesson plan integrates technology into the Reading / Language Arts curriculum.
Grade 1
First Grade Writing - Mastery Series Lesson 1
Students open the word processor application and type three basic sentences, insert and size one piece of clipart and add their name.
Tips:
Model and explain each step to students. Be prepared to provide assistance and repetition as necessary. Work towards developing increased proficency, independence and mastery throughout the series of lessons.
Change to a larger font size before beginning writing. You can teach students how to select text and then increase the font size later in the series.
Teach the students how to use the "Backspace" and "Undo" buttons to fix mistakes.
Remind students to press the print button only once.
