How to Install a Wireless Adapter Card for a PC
Installing a wireless adapter for your PC can allow you to move the PC to a location where it isn't possible or desirable to run ethernet network cables in order to get internet access. Wireless adapters are simple to install, requiring only the removal of the computer case cover and a single screwdriver for most installations. Most computer motherboards will use either a PCI type adapter for standard tower size PCs or PCI Express for small form factor computers. Check your motherboard specs before purchasing a wireless adapter to insure compatibility.
In this example, I will be installing a typical PCI type wireless adapter.
Step One
Unplug the power cord from the computer and then remove the computer case cover. In this example the cover is off and the PCI adapter is ready to be installed into the empty PCI slot.

Step Two
Use a screwdrive to remove the metal plate for the PCI slot you want to use. In this example I am using the empty PCI slot above the installed sound card.

Step Three
Once the plate is removed, clear any dust or debris from the PCI slot and surrounding area. You can use a can of compressed air, computer duster or soft brush.

Step Four
Slide the wireless PCI card firmly into the PCI slot. Insure that is in completely from front to back. Screw the adapter plate into the computer case. Double check that the installation is firm and secure.

Step Five
Replace the computer case cover. Power up the computer and insert the wireless PCI driver software CD in the CD / DVD rom and install the driver software.
DONE!
