Fifth Grade Technology Lessons

The technology lessons below are designed to teach students how to work with various types of images, graphics, and video.
In the computer lab there is an additional requirement that each lesson be uploaded and presented visually on each student's lab website. All software used is either freeware or opensource.
Beneath the technology lessons, the 5th Grade Assignments and Projects lessons are designed to complement and integrate into the standard curriculum and use standard office package software.
Working With Images:
Most of these lessons can be done in two 45 minute sessions.
Lesson One: Name Blinkie
Create a fun and colorful blinking name animation with .gif files
Lesson Two: Labeling Photos
Label bones of the skeletal system / or Label the planets
Lesson Three: Magic Wand and Eraser
Using the magic wand and eraser to remove complex backgrounds
Lesson Four: Screen Capture - Make an Excel Tutorial
Use the screen capture tool to make a short tutorial on making a chart in Excel.
Lesson Five: Make a Website Header for Your Website
How to make a custom website header for your website or blog.
Lesson Six: Green Screen Weather Report
Become a weather reporter using the green screen and a weather forecast picture.
Lesson Seven: Build a Comic
Build a comic using backgrounds and character images and adding speech bubbles.
Working With Video:
Lesson Eight: Video Screen Capture Pt. 1
Create a 1 - 2 minute video tutorial with audio describing how to use some application by recording your computer screen. Example "how create a slide with images in powerpoint"
Lesson Nine: Video Screen Capture Pt. 2
Create another 1 -2 minute video tutorial with audio describing how use some application by recording your screen. Example "how to add sounds to a powerpoint presentation"
Lesson Ten: Windows Movie Maker
Create a complete video using the 2 screen capture tutorial videos you made. Trim unnecessary footage, add an opening title, a transition and some credits. Upload to a video sharing service.
